US-Nigeria Roundtable Conference

THE NIGERIA-US ROUNDABLE HELD AT THE NICON LUXURY HOTEL BETWEEN THE 7TH-8TH OCTOBER 2024

The Pan African Organisation for Small-Scale Industry (PAOSMI) with its stakeholders from Nigeria and the USA, under the collaborative approach to enhance food production and quality to improve food security and safety in West Africa, organised the US-NIGERIA Roundtable Conference on food security and safety. The theme of the Roundtable titled ”Experiential Learning and Business Opportunities in Food Security and Safety: The Nigerian and US Experiences” was successfully held on the 7th and 8th October, 2024 and the Nicon Luxury Hotel, Garki, Abuja. The event attracted dignitaries and over 150 participants drawn from Government and its Ministries, Departments and Agencies; the Academia and Research Institutions; the organised private sector (OPS), entrepreneurs and businesses; Civil Society/Liberty Organization (CSOs /CLOs), etc.

PAPER PRESENTATIONS

The Roundtable was designed as a two- day event with the first day being 7th October 2024 of ceremonials containing addresses, special remarks, goodwill messages from (MDAs, International Partners (UNIDO), and collaborating US universities), and technical paper presentations on seven vital thematic areas of food security and safety with experiences from the US, Indonesia and Nigeria. The second day, the 8th was tailored into the seven thematic areas forming the syndicate grouping to drill deeper into the topics presented culminating into the thematic grouping as follows:

2. Food security, challenges and way Forward in Nigeria by Prof Alhassan Danladi Isa, Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, Nigeria
3. Good Agricultural and Manufacturing Practices in securing International Markets by Prof Samuel Besong, Delaware State University, USA
4. financing and Funding Opportunities for Small, Medium and Large Scale Agribusiness by Prof Jonathan Aremu, Covenant University, Nigeria and Consultant to ECOWAS
5. Postharvest Loss Management through Value Addition, Preservation and Storage by Dr. Augustine Okoruwa, Certified Food Scientist and Specialist, Regional Program Mnager, Food Fortification, Helen Keller International
